Below are sample quarter self-assessments. Please read over them to get an idea of how to justify your work. As you read them, compare them to the requirements for your assessment and see if the authors justified their grade by pointing to the evidence. Note that [...] refers to the location the student used. Example AlphaLearning Self-Assessment and Reasons: The first point is continually sought self excellence. I think that I did do that. I wanted to do the best I could, as well as learn more about technology. I also was quite self-productive. I sometimes had to do some things outside of class, but I got them done. I was also self-productive. Just like I said before, I sometimes had to finish a project outside of class, and I got it done. I have definitely learned a lot more this quarter. For example, I never knew word had so much stuff packed into it. Styles and table of contents are just two things I have learned about this quarter. I am pretty sure that I took advantage of my learning opportunities. Like in the tri-class reflections, I took a long time filling them out, because I knew that they would help me later. I have also worked with others quite a bit in this class. Like when Kenji needed help on our book project, and like when I needed help with poser and also my word project. I found that the help file on the co-web helped a lot. Especially for the book project. I had no idea how to make different page breaks, but the people who contributed to the co web really helped me. Like I said before, I really took time in my tri-class reflections. I put a lot of thought into them, so they would be more use to me later. I definitely completed all of my projects on time. For the last Tri-class Reflections, I was one of the few who turned in my paper copy right as I walked into class. There weren't really any additional projects that I could do, but next quarter, I want to take pictures before I leave. Maybe not at the dance, but I want to do something. It would be really cool to take pictures! My Quarter Grade: A My Quarter Effort: G (Good) Example BetaLearning Self-Assessment and Reasons: I usually sought personal excellence and be self-directed and productive, this can be shown by all my assignments that I have completed. I helped others occasionally but I asked help from others a lot. I have completed all assignments and projects with quality or depth and this can also be shown by my completed assignments. I took advantage of the learning opportunities offered and used them out of classes. I always tried to procedure the best work and I think I really did well on that. My Quarter Grade : If I had the chance to grade my work for this quarter, I would give my self a B-. I always tried the produce the best work I can, but didn't hand in my homework on time. I also failed to do my work on my own. But I always completed my assignments and asked others for help, but didn't help them much. My Quarter Effort: I worked really hard on all assignments and always tried my best, it would helped if I finished my work on time. I would give my self a S. Example GammaLearning Self-Assessment and Reasons: I usually sought personal excellence in the jobs I did. I took advantage of my learning when I could, like when I did my movie. I made some use resources in website and help files to find information as needed but they didn't always help. Occasionally helped others or asked them for help but when they couldn't help I went to the Mr. Fincher. I often tried to expand the boundaries of personal knowledge like when we did the project in photo-shop I wanted to learn more about how to do photo-make-up. I completed assignments, projects, or steps of projects with some quality or depth like in the book project, I did the bare-minimum work, which I regret. Participated in additional assignments, like the movie I had to do for L.A. 1. My Quarter Grade: I believe that I deserve the grade of a B, Because I have met all the criteria for this grade. I have done satisfactory effort in this class. I have given active participation in this class. My Quarter Effort: I think that my effort was S, for satisfactory. I think that I have earned this because I have done all the projects plus one extra project. I have enjoyed this class but I have found it hard to find time to do most of the projects. But I have contributed actively in class. Example DeltaLearning Self-Assessment and Reasons: For each of the requirements for an A grade I will state the way that I have met them. I will explain using my digital portfolio as an example of all of the hard work that I have done this quarter. First I will just talk about the portfolio that I made. This was very hard and I worked on it for the whole quarter, learning a lot along the way. For this portfolio we were required to include two Word documents, one Excel spreadsheet, one presentation document which I made a Power Point for, one JPEG image, one GIF image, and one screen shot. Some of the assignments required me to think a lot and spend a lot of time on them. My Word documents were the easiest thing to do because I had already done the first one in the first quarter of explorations. You can see my document here: [...] . At the time that I did this project on Word it was very hard for me, and I spent a lot of time working on it but for my second Word document, which I used my science paper for, I was able to do all of the work easily. The only thing that I still had trouble doing was making the headers and footers especially making the page numbers be roman numerals for the title page and table of contents page and then making the rest of the document have normal page numbers. I had also had trouble doing this in the Word document that I did in the first quarter and I spent a lot of time on it. However, this time I was able to figure out how to do it in less time so I was proud of myself. This shows that I am a critical thinker and problem solver who applies creativity and persistence. I especially want to say that I was very persistent in trying to make my page numbers perfect. For the three projects that I did on programs that I have never used before, I used Flash, Poser and Inspiration. these are three programs that I have never heard of let alone used before. I especially liked using Flash. You can see the project that I did on Flash here:[...] I thought it was very cool that you used layers to make a background that did not move, then one thing that did move and another thing that did move. I used three layers, one for the background, one for the girl and one for the car. I also thought that Inspiration was a very cool program. I think that this will also be very useful to me sometimes if I need to organize some facts in social studies or maybe science. I also showed that I am a self-directed learner who independently pursues learning by organizing my facts so that it would help me learn them better and get ready for a test. I showed that I have continuously sought personal excellence by meeting all of the requirements of this portfolio assignment. When I was doing this assignment I was not think about the grade as much as all of the things that I was learning by doing this project. I tried to meet all of the requirements because I wanted to learn how to do all of these things so that I could become excellent at them. The reason that I was not able to meet some of the requirements for the different things was because although I tried to figure out how to do the things I was not able to figure it out after a long time of trying to do it. I would like to assure everybody that I did not leave anything without trying to do it and asking around for how to do it first. • Continuously self-directed and productive. I have been self-directed and productive in many ways while I have done this project. This project especially required me to be self-directed because nobody was monitoring how much I had finished after each day, or half the quarter, or even a week before it was due. So I had to command myself to finish a certain amount of it by a certain date so that I would be able to finish it by the due date. So when Mr. Fincher said that he wanted to see one page of our portfolio finished before Christmas break I had finished two pages plus I had started many other pages. I showed that I was productive by producing a finished product in the end of all of my work. You can see my portfolio at [...] I spent my time wisely and worked hard so I think that I have been very productive. •Continuously tried to expand the boundaries of personal knowledge. I did this by doing all of the assignments that were required for the portfolio. Before I did my portfolio I did not know how to use many of the programs or only knew a little bit about them but now I can do many things. In this way I have expanded the boundaries of my personal knowledge. When I made my Poser document I tried to learn more by making deciding to make a movie out of my project and linking it to my page. Many other people just took screen shots of their project but I wanted to learn more about making a movie on Poser so even though it was harder I decided to do so. You can see my Poser page here [...] and once you get there you can follow the link to my movie. •Took full advantage of the learning opportunities offered. I was very glad that I was able to use such programs as Flash and Poser. The reason that I used them was because I knew that I did not have these programs at home and that in ASIJ the only place that had them was the 3rd floor TRC. So I thought that since I would probably never get another chance to use these programs I should take advantage of the opportunity and at least learn the basics of each program. I also had never used Front Page before and since I did not have it at home I took advantage of the opportunity and learned as much as I could about using it. •Can give list several examples for each of the bullets for critical thinkers and problem solvers. A couple more are: - I showed that I am a critical thinker and problem solver who shows creative thinking when I did my project on Flash. I did this by putting the girl on one layer and car on another so that both the car and the girl could move separately. - I showed that I was a critical thinker and problem solver who shows creative thinking and demonstrates flexibility in thinking when I made my Power Point presentation. I showed this when having just light blue and dark green for the background was too boring so I added a little color to it. I was flexible with new ideas and found that this idea was a good one.
